Welcome to my World…Today’s topic is harm reduction in Washington, DC. Harm reduction or prevention is about eliminating the spread of AIDS in the community. Activities such as needle exchange, handing out condoms, and testing for HIV are methods that social workers use for prevention.
Now I consider myself a reasonably smart person. Logically, I can’t understand putting so much effort into testing people in the capital hill area, and not testing people in the poorer sections of the city those that really need it. The city has a HIV epidemic on its hands and Fenty's administration still want to do studies. They are going to study people into the grave being that 90% of those people are African American. I’ll be damned, If we allow it to happen again.
As Washingtonians we must realize that this epidemic affects everybody in our community. We must go to the corners where youth are, or to the clubs on 14th street to pass out condoms. We must find intravenous drug abusers and pass out needles. We must get involved because our lives and our communities depend on it.
My last remark is that the black church must get off its collective ass and start serving their communities. These are their sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren who are being infected and dying. Jesus, Muhammad, and Buddha came to help the least of us, can’t you do the same? Put down your ignorance and pick up the sword of salvation for all.
Well those are my thoughts on that, I must stop ranting before my brain grows to big for my head.
